Ipsis Unoaked Chardonnay

In line with the Padró family’s focus on young, light wines, Ipsis Chardonnay is unoaked. Controlled fermentation at 15ºC allows the maximum expression of this variety. We use grapes from three different local areas, each with its own particular soil and microclimate, which gives the wine a wide range of fruity notes, from citrus to stone fruits and green apples. Ipsis Chardonnay 2018 was voted best DO Tarragona white in 2019 and the wine has received this award consistently over the years. Ipsis Chardonnay is made at the Padró family winery just south of Barcelona. What is interesting about the Padró family is that over five generations they have distilled spirits, made wines (including mistelas and other fortified wines) and become masters of vermouth. On the wine side, the family now specialises in making light, fruity Mediterranean-style wines under different brands, each one representing something of who the family are. The family vineyards are located within the Tarragona Denominación de Orígen, the oldest D.O. in Catalonia, established originally to protect the delicate liqueur wines for which the region was famous – the Tarragona Clásicos. The Padró family believes very much in holding on to your traditions, doing what you know how to do and being proud of who you are and this belief is reflected in the name of their flagship brand Ipsis - made from selected grapes from their own carefully tendered vines -  ipse, self in Latin or ipsis in the ablative: to thine own self (be true).
